Maturing a private and public relationship with God and others by using spiritual principles and practices to seek and advance solutions to help solve social issues and injustices

“Learn to do right; seek justice” (Isaiah 1.17)

Essential Actions of Urban Monks

Essential Actions involve continuously using spiritual principles and practices that:

  • nurture an intimate, personal, and private relationship with God.
  • cultivate a public relationship with God and others through acts of charity.
  • mature a private and public relationship with God by advancing solutions to help solve social issues and injustices.

Ready to Join Us?

  • I am willing to collectively explore with other Urban Monks spiritual principles and practices that 1) nurture a private and intimate relationship with God; 2) cultivate a public relationship with God and others through acts of charity; and 3) support solutions to help solve social issues and injustices.
  • I may post appropriate articles and books, white papers, webinars, seminars, workshops, conferences, art, blogs, movies, photos, music, and social media or other resources that would help Urban Monks further develop their integrated Rules of Life on the Society of Urban Monks web site according to Society guidelines.
  • I may post 1) an appropriate spiritual principle that I am integrating into my efforts to help solve a social struggle with others; 2) an appropriate spiritual practice that I am integrating into my efforts to help solve a social struggle with others; or 3) a vignette involving
    • a person, group of persons, a meeting, workshop, conference, art, movie, or television show that helped shape a spiritual principle or practice that you integrated into your efforts to help solve social problems with others;
    • a spiritual mystic or social reformer's spiritual principle(s) or practice(s) whose efforts to help solve a seemingly intractable social struggle(s) were inspirational; or
    • an ancient or contemporary spiritual principle or practice that you are using to help solve a contemporary social prejudice with others.
